S6 Frankfurt-Bad Vilbel

The modernization between Frankfurt West and Friedberg is one of the central rail infrastructure projects of the Rhein-Main-Bahn.

Barrier-free access, a new station, faster and better on-time service and an easy-to-remember time schedule are the advantages of the modernization between Frankfurt West and Friedberg. In the future, the S-Bahn trains will operate independently of the fast passenger and regional traffic. At present, the S-Bahn takes 26 minutes for the approximately 16-kilometer route between Frankfurt and Bad Vilbel. However, the timetable is limited by many exceptions:  The line is highly stressed and different travel times depending on time and direction as well as scheduled standstill times due to overtaking faster trains in Frankfurter Berg or Frankfurt West have an impact on the S-Bahn traffic.

A solution to this problem are dedicated tracks for the S6. This allows the different types of trains to be handled separately and S-Bahn traffic is no longer dependent on the time windows of long-distance and regional trains.

The corresponding enhancement will take place in two construction stages. In the first construction phase, the tracks on the Frankfurt West-Bad Vilbel line will be extended from two to four tracks and five stations will be modernized over a length of about 13 kilometers. The Frankfurt-Ginnheim stop will also be rebuilt. In the second construction phase, the Bad-Vilbel-Friedberg line will be extended from two to four tracks and six stations will be modernized..

Facts and figures

  • Extension of the tracks from two to four (approx. 30 km length)
  • Modernization of a total of 11 stations
  • New station Frankfurt-Ginnheim

EPLASS Document Management and Drawing Management is used

In this construction project, EPLASS is used for the first of the two construction phases, among other things to manage and automate the drawing approval processes. Our drawing management system is used in the sector of VVBau and in a further procurement for the equipment contractors (OLA / EEA / TK). The implemented, individually configured workflows make the daily work much easier.

The Bauüberwachungs-Ingenieurgemeinschaft S6 (INGE S6) also operates its own EPLASS document management database. In the EPLASS DMS the information request workflow (RFI) was used there for the first time. Thereby external participants can also be comfortably integrated into a structured process for the processing of information requests..
