The construction company „Gerdum & Breuer GmbH“ is building the Gruempen Viaduct in the region of „Sonneberg“, about 2 kilometers east of the city of Schalkau. It spans the 300 meter wide Gruempen valley and is part of the new high speed Inter City Express rail track Ebensfeld-Erfurt-Leipzig/Halle. The viaduct is a double tracked railway with a total length of 1104 meters. The arch span of 270 meters makes this viaduct, together with the “Froschgrundsee” viaduct, the biggest European railway bridge.

Facts and figures:

  • Total length: 1.100 meter
  • Arch span: 270 meter
  • Duration of the project: 2007 - 2011
  • Total project volume: 20 Mio. Euro (planned)

Successful project collaboration with EPLASS:

Besides the company “Gerdum & Breuer Bauunternehmen GmbH” which is responsible for this project, other designers, checking engineers, and geotechnical engineers are also involved within the internet based project collaboration platform EPLASS. The EPLASS Professional design management module provides all participants access to all project documents.

By use of different workflows, construction documentations and structural analysis are being reviewed and released for construction. EPLASS Professional is especially convincing in easily implementing individual processes. Via a special interface, the federal railway authority is also involved in the project.

"EPLASS assists us to manage and archive the design of a large construction project efficiently and to keep all project participants informed."
