    A8 Ulm - Augsburg

The highway A8 runs from Karlsruhe via Stuttgart, Ulm, Augsburg and Munich to Salzburg in Austria. It is considered one of the central traffic motor ways in Europe.

The construction of the 6-lane highway between Ulm and Augsburg commenced in 2011. As a PPP project (Public Private Partnership) a concession for the duration of 30 years has been given to the concessionaire PANSUEVIA GmbH & Co. KG. Shareholders and partners of the PANSUEVIA as well as the PANSUEVIA Services are the HOCHTIEF PPP Solutions GmbH - a subsidiary of HOCHTIEF Solutions AG - and the STRABAG Infrastructure Project GmbH.

To receive part of the truck tolls, the concessionaire is responsible for the organization, financing, construction and guarantee of the thereafter proper operation and maintenance of the construction section.

The project also includes the tearing down of currently existing bridges, construction of 76 new bridges as well as noise protection measures of approximately 9 kilometers. The completion of all construction work has been entrusted to the joint venture BAB A8 Ulm-Augsburg; HEILT + WOERNER Construction GmbH, HOCHTIEF Solutions AG and Ed-Züblin AG.

The federal role in this PPP project is overseen by the highway authority of South Bavaria.

Successful project collaboration with EPLASS:

In the same way as almost every German PPP project, this project too has chosen EPLASS Professional to manage their construction design review processes. Various workflows have been defined to enable project participants to review drawings and other documents without the delay of a manual distribution.

Furthermore all review durations and their adherence to the expected due dates are being monitored through the integrated time-scheduling management function of the EPLASS Professional module. Moreover, the automated filing of drawings and documents on basis of ID numbers provides a clear overview and an easy to follow structure of all documents.

“To me, EPLASS is a self-explanatory system. I only needed a brief instruction in order to actively commence working on the platform. The clear structures and the automated processes in EPLASS considerably facilitate my work as a design manager."
